ESD Board to Vote on Budget, Title and Salary Changes

The Erie School District has spent years climbing out of a multi-million dollar deficit.

As they look to close the remaining $4 million gap, they won't fill the assistant superintendent position, putting additional duties on other positions while increasing their salaries.

At the board's Wednesday meeting they will vote on raising salaries by $1,000 for non-instructional supervisors, including department managers and executive secretaries who are non-bargaining employees.

According to Matthew Cummings, the District’s Director of Communications, by not filling the $126,000 salaried assistant superintendent position, other employees will see salary adjustments based on additional assigned duties.

The Director of Instructional and Information Technology, the Supervisor of Service Center Operations, the Director of Communications and Media Relations and the Director of Pupil Services could all see a 5% raises and additional duties.

Meanwhile, the teacher’s contract is set to expire June 30th.

As the district makes these salary changes, the President of the Erie Education Association wants to know why they haven't reached a negotiation with the union.

The board is expected to also vote on the $149 million budget at the Wednesday meeting.

This is a balanced budget, with no deficit and no tax increase for the 2014-2015 school year.
