Local fire departments are training for river rescues using aerial support. Lake City and Lake Shore's fire departments are now trained in what will happen if they need to call in a helicopter for water rescue assistance.

The simulation started with victims being inserted in the water. The Helicopter Aquatic Rescue Team (HART) used a Black Hawk helicopter to fly over Elk Creek and evaluate the scene. Rescue technicians were lowered down to secure the victim. and were then hoisted back up to the chopper.
