Fire Destroys Garage and Car but Occupant Saved

The fire chief of Fairfield Hose Co. says they had been told someone was trapped inside the home, but neighbors had actually rescued an elderly man who lives at the property.

Fire crews were called to a fire in Harborcreek tonight.
The call went out around 9:20 for a fire at a home located at 5008 Lee Avenue.

Crews from Fairfield Hose Company responded. When they arrived, the garage and a car inside were fully involved.
The fire chief says they had been told someone was trapped inside the home, but neighbors had actually rescued an elderly man who lives at the property, pulling him to safety.

He was taken to UPMC Hamot for evaluation.
Firefighters were able to keep the fire from spreading to the home.
They say the fire was out in about 20 minutes.
