Fish Steps Project Finishes

A fish steps project will help fish get upstream.
July 16, 2014 - A new set of steps will help fish in Girard Township get upstream.

The steps are designed to help steelhead and trout swim upstream in Crooked Creek.

Fish used to have to make big jumps to make it all the way through, and some just couldn't do it.

These changes could also help with future fish reproduction. These steps took only a few days to build and will have a huge impact on the fishing community.

"It actually adds just to the livability of the area and uh to the recreational aspect of it, not only for our tourists who come up here but even for the local folks who come in to enjoy fishing,” said Bill Felege, Girard Township Supervisor.

The steps were funded by a grant through a public-private partnership called, “Sustain Our Great Lakes.”
