Gannon Opens Recreation & Wellness Center 364 Days After Breaking Ground

The existing rec space was renovated with a massive expansion.
August 29, 2014 - After months of construction, Gannon University's multi-million dollar recreation and wellness center officially opens its doors.

It's been 364 days since crews started construction on the university's $14.5 million complex.

It's transformed an entire city block.

Dozens of Gannon faculty, students, staff, athletes plus community leaders and Bishop Lawrence Persico blessed and officially opened the recreation and wellness center between Third and Fourth Streets between Peach and Sassafras streets.

The existing rec space was renovated with a massive expansion.

The more than 51,000 square foot indoor field house is one of the main focal points of the project.

It will give students the chance to have practices indoors during inclement weather on the 80-yard athletic field.

There's also a human performance lab that gives students a hands on space to learn in.

At peak construction time, officials from BSI say there were at least 200 people working on the project.
