Gannon University’s Radio Station Receives Grant

Gannon University’s student-run radio station, 90.5 WERG, is the recipient of a $5,000 grant
Erie, Pa. – Gannon University’s student-run radio station, 90.5 WERG, is the recipient of a $5,000 grant
from the Pennsylvania Association of Broadcasters (PAB).

Chet LaPrice, operations manager at WERG, said that the grant money will fund a new digital work station, which
will allow to WERG to expand its air staff, voice track additional shows, pre-produce long-form shows and more
efficiently utilize this industry-standard educational tool for digital audio production classes in the University’s
communication arts program.

The grant, according to LaPrice, will benefit not only Gannon students but Erie listeners as well. “We offer unique
and diverse programming to the Gannon community and the greater Erie County area, and we constantly seek
ways to provide a special learning and listening experience that will enhance our students’ potential through the
compelling and captivating medium of radio,” he said.

Earlier this year, 90.5 WERG was honored with several awards at the annual Intercollegiate Broadcasting System
(IBS) Conference in New York, including the Abraham and Borst Award for Best College Station in the Nation.

The station will cross Peach Street, moving into the new School of Communications and the Arts building in Fall
2014.
