February 11, 2014 - A week after Governor Tom Corbett presents his budget, he's in Erie recognizing three schools for their academic efforts and weighing in on his budget.

Hundreds of students filled the auditorium at Harbor Creek High School today as Governor Corbett recognized Klein Elementary School, Clark Elementary School and Rolling Ridge Elementary School with the Governor’s Award for Excellence in Academics for scoring 90 or higher on the 2012- 2013 school performance profile.

It's an important year for Governor Corbett as he runs for re-election.

He presented his budget last week that focuses on education and pension reform.

The budget allocates 35% to Pre-k to 12th grade education and 5.5% to higher education.

He's appropriated $241 million to a ready to learn block grant that he says is a better way to fund education.
