Homicide Victim Identified

Eugene Cray died from a gunshot wound to the head.
HARPERSFIELD TOWNSHIP May 13, 2014- The body of a black man found Sunday afternoon in a ditch on State Route 307 has been identified as Eugene A. Cray, 43, of Cleveland. The Ohio State Highway Patrol responded to scene near Barnum Road about 3:31 p.m.

Cray died from a gunshot wound to the head Richard Mongell, chief investigator for the Ashtabula County Coroner’s Office, said.

Cray is reported to have had an extensive history of criminal activity in Cuyahoga County dating back to 1989. Cray’s adult criminal record begins with drug trafficking, drug abuse and possession of criminal tools. A year later Cray moved up to felonious assault with specifications and receiving stolen property. In 1991 he was convicted of aggravated robbery and involuntary manslaughter. Cray was charged with murder with violence and was convicted of aggravated robbery and involuntary manslaughter. All this is supported by records from the Cuyahoga county court system.

After serving jail time, Cray was arrested for drug possession and trafficking, felonious assault, kidnapping, aggravated robbery, intimidation of witnesses and concealed weapon in 2005.
