Humane Society Rescues Cats from Erie Home

More than a dozen cats were rescued.
The Humane Society of Northwestern Pennsylvania rescued more than a dozen cats in an Erie home this afternoon.

After being contacted by the coroner's office, the Humane Society stopped by a home on Peach Street to rescue some cats that were in a hoarding situation. Humane Society officials tell us that the person who lived at 2509 Peach St. passed away a few days ago and once the coroner arrived and found the body he also found the cats.

Humane Society Executive Director Joe Grisanti says it ended up being roughly a dozen cats. Grisanti says this was a very unsafe situation for the cats to be in and says he sees situations like this becoming far too common these days.

The cats were taken back to the shelter to be evaluated so that they could be put up for adoption. He says the cats did seem to be social, and in good condition.

Grisanti says if you suspect any animals to be in a hoarding situation, contact the Humane Society's animal cruelty hotline at 814-835-8360.
