Local Colleges and Universities Celebrate 2014 Commencement

Thousands of students graduated this weekend from colleges and universities in the Erie region.
May 10, 2014 - Thousands of people are now proud alumni of colleges and universities throughout the area following many commencement ceremonies this weekend.

Penn State Erie, the Behrend College, celebrated commencement on Friday night, with 492 students graduating.

Saturday morning, former governor, Tom Ridge, addressed the graduating class of Edinboro University. Ridge also received an honorary Doctor of Public Service degree from the university.

There were 927 graduates at EU.

Saturday afternoon, Gannon University hosted its commencement at the Erie Insurance Arena.

In total for the 2013-2014 academic year, Gannon has had 970 graduates.

Allegheny College in Meadville celebrated commencement as well, with roughly 500 students getting their degrees.

Mercyhurst North East also had its ceremony, featuring C-SPAN executive producer and Erie native, Steve Scully, as the commencement speaker.
