Local Officials Tout Safety of Erie Water

Following that water crisis in Toledo local officials have weighed in on the possibility of that happening in Erie.
Following that water crisis in Toledo local officials have weighed in on the possibility of that happening in Erie.

According to the CEO of Erie Water Works, Paul Vojtek the chance of a water emergency happening here is unlikely. Vojtek says the intake system in Toledo is unlike the system at Erie Water Works.

In Erie water is taken from the lake from about a mile and a half offshore and the intake system is about 35 to 40 feet below water It's then filtered through the Wasielewski water treatment plant before going to your home. The location of the intake in Toledo is closer to the surface with warmer water temperatures.

Although Erie had a harmful algae bloom for the first time ever in Presque Isle Bay last year Vojtek says we shouldn't be too concerned "Never say never but it's very unlikely anything would happen like that based on intake location, depth of water distance from shore intake from having that kind of problem."
