Man Charged with Operating Meth Lab

Charges stem from an explosion that erupted at the Barnett Building in Albion on Monday.
A man is now facing charges after an explosion erupted at the Barnett Building in Albion on Monday. Police from Albion and agents from the attorney general's office determined that the fire originated in the apartment of 61 year old Edward Melton.

Melton is charged with operating a methamphetamine laboratory, criminal conspiracy and risking a catastrophe. He is now in the Erie County Prison in lieu of $10,000 cash bond.

Police have charged a second man they say was involved in the meth lab. 46 year old David Maund suffered burns in the explosion. He is currently hospitalized in UPMC Mercy Hospital in Pittsburgh. Albion police have filed six felonies in connection with the meth lab and the explosion.

Maund will be arraigned upon his release from the hospital.
