NACO Celebrates Sudanese Culture

The group hosts this event every year to introduce the community to the culture and help the younger generations keep in touch with their heritage.
JULY 6, 2014-- NACO, an international organization created in Erie, is celebrating its 10th anniversary. Its members say they are leaning on each other for support, and that’s the theme of this year’s conference. The group was created to help raise awareness about the South Sudanese and has expanded to an international organization. Members from the organization performed a cultural dance in traditional tribal costumes to honor their South Sudanese heritage. They say they host this event every year to introduce the community to their culture and help the younger generations keep in touch with their heritage. NACO has been working with the Erie Art Musesum to raise funds to help with education in South Sudan. The group is hoping to raise 30,000 dollars to send textbooks and school supplies to kids in South Sudan. NACO has already collected 25,000 books so far. It plans to send the books in October.
