Safety improvements to correct embankment erosion are scheduled to begin on a section of Interstate 86 eastbound in Greenfield Township, Erie County.

The area is located in the eastbound lanes of Interstate 86, approximately one mile west of the Pennsylvania/New York line.

Work will involve installation of a rock embankment and guiderail updates.

The contractor is Horizon Construction Group, Inc. The contract cost is $101,000, which will be paid entirely with federal funds.

Work is scheduled to be completed in approximately one week, weather permitting, and take place between April 28 and July 1.

Traffic will be maintained during construction, but might be restricted to a single lane during daylight hours when work is under way.

PennDOT urges motorists to slow down when driving in work zones, and also to be alert to changing conditions, avoid distractions and to pay attention to signs and flaggers. Drive responsibly in work zones for your safety and the safety of the workers.
