Senator Toomey & Representative Meehans Effort Yields Improved Jobs Website for Veterans

The U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) has improved its website to help returning veterans consistent with legislation authored by U.S. Senator Pat Toomey (R-Pa.) and U.S. Congressman Pat Meehan (R-Pa.).
The U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) has improved its website to help returning veterans consistent with legislation authored by U.S. Senator Pat Toomey (R-Pa.) and U.S. Congressman Pat Meehan (R-Pa.).

DOL recently revamped a feature on its “Career One Stop” website to include a new webpage that both assists veterans in finding local jobs which match their military experience while also allowing employers to post job openings for veterans. This improvement follows legislative efforts championed by Senator Toomey and Congressman Meehan which sought to make the “Career One Stop” website easier for veterans and employers to connect.

“I want to thank Secretary Perez for listening to my concerns and taking action to streamline the job search process for veterans,” said Senator Toomey. “As a member of the Senate Veterans Jobs Caucus, I want veterans to find good jobs during a time of sluggish economic recovery. The courageous men and women who serve in our armed forces deserve to return home to a steady job, a paycheck, and a promising future. This website improvement will assist our veterans in connecting with employers who need workers with the skills that come from their military service.”

“Our veterans returning home from service overseas have a broad array of knowledge and expertise,” said Congressman Meehan. “But until now, a confusing patchwork of government services and websites has made it a challenge for these veterans to connect with employers looking to hire. This new one-stop shop will make it easier for our veterans to translate what they learned serving our country into marketable skills and a steady job. I’m grateful to Secretary Perez and the Department of Labor for their efforts to help connect our veterans with opportunities at home.”
