Spartansburg Nursery Destroyed By Fire

The barn at Berkey's Nursery was leveled in the early morning fire
A Spartansburg business was leveled by fire this morning, it took volunteers from 7 different departments to bring the fire under control.

The first 9-1-1 call to Berkey’s Nursery came in at 7 Wednesday morning.
The first crews on the scene reported heavy smoke pouring from the roof.

Just minutes earlier, workers opened the doors to the nursery and found smoke filling the building. They were able to remove some farm equipment before it became to dangerous to be in the building.

Firefighters encountered several explosions while battling the fire. Those explosions apparently coming from acetylene tanks used for welding.

All of the contents in the barn were destroyed including a storage freezer with 10 years worth of seeds used for planting.

At this point it appears the fire was electrical in nature but an investigation is underway
