Standoff Ends Peacefully With Suspect In Police Custody

Erie police have successfully ended a standoff that began just before 10 pm Friday night.

        Shortly after 1am Saturday, Erie police were able to successfully end a standoff situation in the 1100 block of West 20th street that had started just before 10 PM Friday evening. According to Erie police, they had received a phone call Friday night from a woman who had indicated that a man at the west 20th street residence was armed and threatening to harm himself. When police arrived on scene they quickly closed down the area, and brought in the SWAT team. Eventually police were able to gain the release of a toddler who was in the residence at the time. It is believed that the toddler was unharmed. As police continued to talk to the man he eventually came out of the house at which point police were able to tase the man and then take him into custody otherwise unharmed. It is unclear at this time what exactly lead the the situation. Police are still at the residence investigating.
