Summer Jobs Coming to Local Youth

JUNE 4, 2014-- Summer Jobs are coming to area youth. Jobs and more hosted the program sign up Wednesday from 3 PM to 7 PM at PA Career Link. The first day of sign-ups brought in about 100 young people, along with their parents, to apply for potential jobs in the Erie area. The program is for local’s age 16-21 who will be paid minimum wage. Some employers are already lined up, including Gannon University, Edinboro University and the Erie School District. Jobs include maintenance work and the program hopes to expand to other employers that will introduce them to career exploration. The program will offer jobs for 100 eligible candidates, 50 in the city and 50 in the county, all who need to meet certain income restrictions. Parents and those signing up are excited to see this program take shape to prepare them for the working world. The program will continue on Thursday from 3-7 PM at PA Career Link. Another sign-up will be hosted at Union City High School on June 10th. Selected Youth will begin working on June 30th, where they will spend the first week in a work readiness program to prepare them for the summer job. The program is funded through the Erie County Gaming and Revenue Authority, the County of Erie and the Erie Community Foundation.
