Teens Join Gannon University in Lake Research Project

The Summer School of Excellence Science Program allows 40 regional high school students to join the hands-on program each year
The Summer School of Excellence Science Program allows 40 regional high school students to join the hands-on program each year.

Wednesday morning, the students went out on Gannon's research boat, the Environaut. All of the students have a special interest in environmental science and want to take advantage of studying in our lakefront community. We took a ride on the Environaut as the students took samples from the water, plankton, and even the bottom of the lake. They will take these samples back to the lab and analyze them.

The program's annual research efforts help residents and experts to know the condition of the lake by reporting findings to the DEP. Gannon University is implementing a new fresh water microbiology program next year. It is one of only sixty in the country.
