2012 is a year of celebration in Erie, marking 200 years since the War of 1812 and the Battle of Lake Erie.

The Perry 200 Commemoration kicks off Monday, an 18 month long program with more than 30 events to remember Erie's history.

This morning, dozens of sponsors and committee members for the Perry 200 Commemoration gathered at the Jefferson Educational Society to announce the events that will take place.

2012 is the "Launch Season" and 2013 is known as the "Sailing Season."

Launch season kicks off at Perry Elementary School on Monday morning.

Honorable Joyce Savocchio, general co-chair of the Perry 200 group, announced this morning that 150 sites will raise 3 different flags on Monday morning.

Those 3 flags are the American flag, the Star Spangled Banner Flag and the "Don't Give Up the Ship."

A cannon salute and the ringing of church bells will accompany the celebration.

The more than 30 events you can attend include concerts, picnics, lectures movies and historic tours.
