UPMC Hamot To Host Child Abuse Awareness Event

UPMC Hamot will host the Pinwheels for Prevention Child Abuse Awareness event at UPMC Hamot Women’s Hospital
On Tuesday, April 8, at 10 a.m., UPMC Hamot will host the Pinwheels for Prevention Child Abuse Awareness event at UPMC Hamot Women’s Hospital, 118 E. 2nd St. UPMC Hamot is hosting this free community event for the third year in a row in honor of National Child Abuse Awareness Month in April.

To kick off the event, UPMC Hamot leaders and County Executive Kathy Dahlkemper will offer remarks about the importance of increasing the awareness and reporting of child abuse and promoting child abuse prevention.

Following the presentations, event attendees will be invited to plant a pinwheel in a pinwheel garden.

The pinwheel is a symbol of child abuse awareness and prevention. Pinwheels also will be planted in the front lawn of UPMC Hamot.

According to the Office of Children and Youth, in 2012, 900 child protective services reports were filed and 84 cases were indicated for child abuse.

Individuals who witness, suspect, or are victims of child abuse are asked to report it to the Erie County Office of Children & Youth, 814-451-6600, or Pennsylvania Childline, 1-800-932-0313.
