This does not mean police may search every vehicle they stop but previously citizens could refuse an officers request to search a vehicle without a warrant.

This is no longer the case.

Although this is being called a drastic change in citizens rights and police powers a Lancaster County district attorney said the ruling puts Pennsylvania in line with federal law and many other states.

Police officers still need to have reasonable probable cause to pull over a vehicle and conduct a search.
