Wiley Applauds Gay Marriage Decision

Today, a U.S. District Judge handed down a ruling stating that the ban on same-sex marriage in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania is unconstitutional.
Erie, May 20, 2014 – Today, a U.S. District Judge handed down a ruling stating that the ban on same-sex marriage in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania is unconstitutional.

Following that announcement, Senator Sean D. Wiley (D-Erie) released this statement:

“Today is a momentous day in this Commonwealth. This is a win for equal rights for all.

“I have said it time and time again - each and every human being, regardless of race, ethnicity, gender and, yes, regardless of who they choose to love, should be afforded the same rights as anyone else.

“This ruling is a testament to the dedicated men and women who came to the forefront of this issue and made sure their voices were heard.

“While today is a great day, we must not forget that this ruling does not ensure equal rights for all. In Pennsylvania, a man or woman can still be discriminated against as a result of his or her sexual orientation. We cannot give up this fight. We must continue to stand up for equal rights. We certainly cannot back down after coming this far.”
