Erie Water Works Reopens Wasielewski Water Treatment Plant.
After seven years and 42 million dollars in renovations, Erie Water Works is ready to open their updated water treatment plant. The Wasielewski Water Treatment Plant was first built in the 1930’s and used the sand filtration system. Now recent renovations make this the largest retrofitted membrane filtration water treatment plant in the United States. The membranes system no longer uses sand and is home to eight different cells used to filter the water. The membranes collect particles in the water and can filter more than 45 million gallons per day. Erie Water Works hired four different local contractors to update the facility, employing more than two hundred and fifty Erie workers. The advanced technology allows the process to be monitored through computers. The new system gives you the best possible water right to your sink.
