As storms ripped through parts of the Midwest Sunday, northwest Pennsylvania saw heavy rain and strong winds causing damage and power outages throughout the region. Penelec worked to restore power to many in our region overnight. Early Monday morning, still about 200 homes in Erie County were without power, 1,800 in McKean County, and other counties in the region had 700 or fewer still in the dark. Those numbers dropped significantly as the morning continued. Across the region and into western Ohio, reports of hanging or downed power lines and branches and trees in roadways slowed traffic for some on the Monday morning commute. Sunday night, there were wires down on Peach Street that caught fire. Just before midnight on West 19th and Poplar Streets, high winds caused a large piece of aluminum siding and plywood to peel off of the Superior Bronze Corporation building. The siding was blown all the way down the street before being stopped by a telephone pole. Erie police and the fire department responded to that scene to clean up and check for more damage to the building.
