When it comes to "going with the flow", FMC Technologies is king.
Their flow meters are used in over 140 countries around the world. But when it comes to the product they make, they are proud to say they're made in America, made right here.
When you walk through the plant at FMC Technologies, you pass beneath a giant American flag.
That flag represents what the company stands for, an American made product, a product that must be 100% accurate.
FMC Technologies manufactures custody transfer flow meters.
Edward Saffron, business mgr. FMC Technologies, said: "In simple terms, we are the cash register for liquid oil and gas transfers. When custody of petroleum changes ownership from one party to the next, we measure that transaction with our products. We are the only facility in the world that makes the range of flow meters that we do. We make highly mechanical flow meters all the way to flow meters that have no moving parts."
There is absolutely no room for error when making these flo meters.
Edward, "A supertanker might hold 2 million gallons of oil. If our meters are off by 1/2 percent, that could represent a million dollar loss to our customers."
The company also knows the importance of utilizing the local community to cultivate the talent needed at FMC Technologies.
Twelve percent of the workforce is made up of Penn State Behrend interns.
Edward, "Absolutely it's important to provide for the local community, to keep jobs here, keep the product here, keep manufacturing here. We produce the best quality product here in Erie, Pa."
A thought echoed by 25-year-employee Don Thompson.
Don Thompson said: "It's nice having good jobs, good family sustaining jobs, right here in our town.
Made in America.
