OCTOBER 21, 2013- With a snow mix in the forecast later this week, Penn Dot officials and mechanics are already preparing for the worst.
Thursday is when Mother Nature is expected to throw us another curve ball.
Our meteorologists predict wet snow in some spots... and Penn Dot is already tying up loose ends.
Penn Dot officials spent Monday applying brine tanks, adding new undercoating and checking the electronics of the 38 snow plows.
Nate Nunez of Penn Dot says crews are ready to work around the clock.
He says the snow budget this year is smaller than year’s past- just over $4.7 million.
He says there is no fear of running out of supplies.
Twelve thousand tons of salt, five thousand tons of anti skid and seventy seven thousand gallons of brine are readily available.
Local mechanics are also gearing up for the wintery mix.
Business boomed at Johnson and Flick on Peach Street, as dozens of people got their cars winterized today...
Johnson and Flick officials say adding new windshield wipers, switching over to snow tires and checking car batteries is a must.
