Two women charged with murder are one step closer to their trial. Ashley Barber and Jade Olmstead admitted to police back in May of this year that they killed 20 year old Brandy Stevens and buried her body in a shallow grave near Cochranton. Judge Mark Stevens heard arguments from both sides in the case about the admissibility of statements about the crime both women made to state police.

The autopsy report says Stevens died of suffocation. She had also been beaten with a shovel, strangled with a rope, and an attempt had apparently been made to drown her. A ruling on the women's statements will come before trial, which is scheduled to begin in November.
