Penn State Behrend has commissioned a $48,000 study to make improvements to Wintergreen Gorge. The college has secured a grant through the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation of Natural Resources to make improvements to the primary gorge trail. The trail feeds a network of smaller hiking and biking trails, many of which descend to four mile creek.
Several hundred years of erosion has taken a toll on the trail, and that's cause for improvements.
A Pittsburgh based landscape architecture firm has been hired to design a more stable, handicapped accessible trail structure.
