JULY 13, 2014-- Around 3 PM Sunday afternoon residents reported seeing a black bear walking in town in Meadville near Water Street. Police tried to move him out of town and into the woods, but the bear made his way to Allegheny College and climbed up into a tree on the campus. Allegheny College police had the area blocked off and were monitoring it so people wouldn't get into danger. While the bear was taking a nap in the tree, many people came out to catch a glimpse of the ursine interloper. The bear seemed uninterested, and largely ignored the attention.
Contacted Monday morning, campus security reports the bear apparently is no longer asleep in the tree. They say he, or maybe she has moved on.
