It was an emotional day in court for both Kristina Allen and Dean Haggerty's family members.
Kristina Allen wept, as she was sentenced to 7 to 15 years behind bars.
The sentence comes after Allen was found guilty of third degree murder back in April.
Prosecutors say Allen shot and killed Dean Haggerty with a single gun shot wound to the chest during an argument last August.
Haggerty's blood alcohol content was three and a half times the legal limit when he died.
Today in court, Haggerty's mother, Angel, asked the judge to give Allen mercy.
She told the judge that alcohol killed her son, and Allen pulling the trigger was an accident.
She pleaded with the judge to give Allen the minimum range for committing murder.
The DA’s office argued that a standard range sentence should be imposed.
Some of the people who knew Dean Haggerty say this sentence does not bring justice.
Some family members say Angel Haggerty's statements in court made a significant impact on Judge Connelly's sentencing.
In addition, Connelly pointed out that Allen had just one prior run-in with the law-a disorderly conduct charge.
