JULY 24, 2014-- Annaleise Carr is from Canada and just 16 years old. On Friday she will swim from beach 10 at Presque Isle to Port Dover in Canada. If she completes the swim Carr will make history, swimming the longest distance on record and will be the youngest person to completely swim Lake Erie. Carr has been training for months and will have 35 members of her team with her along the estimated 30 hour swim. Carr said she decided to take on the challenge after swimming 10 kilometers for Camp Trillium, a childhood cancer support center. She said she wanted to do more for the camp, but can’t volunteer there until the age of 18. So she did her part, by raising money for the camp, to help the kids. For her Lake Ontario swim Carr raised more than 200 ,000 dollars For her Lake Erie swim she has already raised more than 110,000 dollars for Camp Trillium.
"Going and seeing all the families there and the kids just smiling and laughing and having such a good time. And they could all forget about what was going on outside of camp almost like a safe haven for them, made me want to do something more to help." Annaleise Carr said.
