The Saturday, July 26, 2014, event is reviving the popular Run for Liberty that has taken a break for a few years.
Audubon is giving a new beginning to this popular run/walk that brought the community together in a unique way. Nature-enthusiasts, athletes, businesses, families, friends and volunteers will all discover common interests and values in the happenings on race day.
Like its predecessor, the Wild 5K will provide an opportunity to enjoy the distinctive beauty of the Sanctuary while posing a meaningful challenge.
Also like the Run for Liberty, proceeds from the race will support Liberty, Audubon’s non-releasable resident Bald Eagle.
Prizes will be awarded to the first overall male and female finishers in the run category. Age group awards will be given to the top three finishers in each division for both runners and walkers, a total of 10 divisions.
Participants who preregister by Thursday, July 17, will receive an event t-shirt. Preregistration fee is $20 or $18 for Friends of the Nature Center. Participants registering after July 17 or on race day will pay $25, or $22.50 for Friends of the Nature Center. Special free children’s events facilitated by Distinguished Young Women Contestants will take place during the race.
Event details are at http://www.wild5k.wordpress.com.
Volunteers will be needed on July 26 for multiple tasks, including parking, registration, staffing the refreshment table and water station, and more.
Businesses and individuals can become Wild 5K sponsors by donating gift certificates or making a financial or in-kind contribution. Sponsors will be recognized in a variety of ways, from listings in the program and on the website to receiving complimentary tickets to an Audubon event of their choosing.
