Erie County Council voted in favor last week to move the Erie County Convention Center Authority forward with its plans to build a hotel.

But a local political analyst says there could be some fallout from that vote.

Erie County Council voted to pass a debt guarantee for up to 60 million dollars so the E-C-C-C-A can build a hotel next to the convention center.

The vote didn't sit well with some county residents who voiced their opinions and were against a publicly funded hotel.

Doctor Michael Federici from Mercyhurst University says some voters will remember that when they go to the polls.

Federici said “If the perception is they shouldn't be doing it because it's not good for public good and it's hurting these other private companies and it's going to kill some even though it helps something else. I'm sure it will be a huge campaign issue and in some cases may be the difference in someone being elected and not being reelected”

Construction on the hotel is set to begin this summer.
