Beatles Arrive In America 50 Years Ago Today

- It was 50 years ago today that John Lennon, Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr and George Harrison landed at JFK Airport in New York City. The rest is musical history. Many say that when the Beatles came to America, it was the beginning of "the change" A change in music style and some say a change in society. The younger generation began to grow out their hair like the Beatles. Long in length in those days, but quite tame by today's standards.
Capt Dan Geary, morning DJ at WMCE 88.5FM said the Beatles music will always live on. He said WMCE plays more than 8 thousand Beatle's songs a year. One Beatle's song every hour.

We spoke with Erie resident Chet Bixby who is a huge Beatle fan. He told us he sat down with Pete Best a few years ago and talked about how Best wondered "what if"
Best was fired as the Beatles drummer, Ringo Starr took over.

Eric Compton is another Erie resident who was a mammoth Beatle fan. He was lucky enough to see the Fab 4 in concert at Shea Stadium in 1964.

All three agree, the music of the Beatles will never fade away. After all, look what the first 50 years of the Beatles in America. Their music is still alive and well.
