The Internal Revenue Service has dealt a blow to one of Erie's neighborhood centers.
The executive director of the Booker T. Washington Center confirming for Jet 24 Action News tonight that the IRS has revoked the center's tax exempt status.

William Jeffress says the move comes because the IRS claims the center failed to file what are known as 9-90 forms, which are described as tax returns for non-profits.
According to Jeffress, funding cuts left the Booker T. Washington Center without enough money to pay it's tax preparers.
He says the center is not in danger of closing. Tax preparers are now working with the IRS and he hopes to have the issue resolved before the next fiscal year begins in July.

However, City of Erie officials confirm tonight they can't continue with community block grant funding until the IRS reinstates the center's tax exempt status.
