Casey Statement On Decision To Protect LGBT Workers

- Washington DC- U.S. Senator Bob Casey (D-PA) released a statement following reports that President Obama will sign executive order protecting LGBT workers from workplace discrimination by government contractors:

“I’m pleased about the reports indicating President Obama will sign an executive order to ban federal contractors from engaging in employment discrimination against lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) Americans. I’ve called on the Administration to take this commonsense step so that those receiving federal contracts are required to have in place basic protections for LGBT Americans. This executive order is simple and straightforward. It says that employees should be judged on how they do their job and not who they are. Now, Congress should bring these protections to LGBT Americans throughout the country by passing the bipartisan Employment Non-Discrimination Act (ENDA). The Senate came together on a bipartisan basis to end workplace discrimination against LGBT Americans and the House of Representatives should do the same. Speaker Boehner should give this bill an up or down vote on the House floor. I believe it would pass.”
