May 28, 2014 - The bitter cold winter severely damaged area fruit trees, many trees dying from the frigid temperatures.

Peach trees seemed to have taken the hardest hit, according to Paul Pangrantz, who runs Pangrantz Farms in Girard. His peach trees have very few leaves and dead buds that would have borne fruit. “It's going to be bad. The winter was really hard on us, basically because of the changing temperatures, too warm to cold too quick," says Pangrantz.

Pangratz says prune and plum trees also took a hit this past winter and those fruits will be hard to find locally as well.
