Community Honors Soldiers at Annual Picnic

May 24, 2014 – This Memorial Day weekend, the community is honoring past, present, and fallen heroes with an annual picnic.

The Fallen Soldiers Picnic kicked off Saturday at Gravel Pit Park in North East.

The event features a ceremonial 21 Gun Salute and entertainment from local bands.

It runs until 10, and with a $10 donation, you'll get food, drinks, and entertainment. Your donation also helps support military charities.

The picnic started in honor of Sgt. Donald Oaks Jr. and now honors fallen hometown heroes.

The purpose of the picnic is to support the true meaning of Memorial Day.

The picnic ends with a fireworks show set to begin at 9:30 p.m.
