County Councilman, Community Activists Look to Start Youth Summer Jobs Program

- March 28, 2014 - Community activists are reaching out, asking the community for help putting together a summer youth jobs program to reduce violence.

Erie County Councilman Andre Horton says it's time for the community to come together to form the program to keep teens out of trouble and combat violence.

Horton says the community can't address violence without talking about employment.

Representatives from several organizations are involved in the coalition to help youth.

One problem the coalition faces is finding money to fund the program.

Horton is calling on the businesses in Erie and the Erie Community Foundation to help them fund the program he says is overdue.

He hopes to create 350 to 400 jobs for this summer.
