“We’ve been working closely with Barrel O’ Fun Snack Foods Co. East, Inc. (BOFE) which is a subsidiary of KLN Enterprises, Inc., since they first became interested in the former potato chip plant in Waterford,” said DevelopErie President and CEO, John Elliott. He added, “KLN choosing our region to locate an eastern snack chip manufacturing plant is a huge boost to local employment and our local potato farmers. There have been a lot of moving parts required to help KLN get this operation up and running.”
BOFE has already made major renovations to the facility to create a state-of-the-art, food processing plant. There have been major upgrades to the floors, walls, ceilings, restrooms and offices and upgrades to the plumbing and electrical systems. BOFE has also made a $16M investment in machinery and equipment.
Overall KLN expenditure for Phase I of the Barrel O’ Fun East project will exceed $20M. There are presently 50 permanent employees and 40 temp-to-hires currently working 2 shifts.
Brian Garlick, Barrel O’ Fun East General Manager had this to say: “We are extremely pleased that the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania has chosen to invest in this project. It’s a nice ‘welcome to Pennsylvania’ message.” KLN Enterprises has other manufacturing plants in Minnesota and Arizona. The Waterford plant serves their east coast customers.
