May 23, 2014 - Leon Hooks started his drill team program back in the spring of 1981 as a way to give back to the community and help kids avoid going down the wrong path like he did.

Today, some of those who were on his first team met; at the JFK Center for the beginning of reunion weekend.

Those we spoke with said Hooks helped them avoid getting into trouble and pushed them to follow their dreams of getting degrees, with some even heading to medical school.

Former members said they don't know where they would be today without his program, and that they believe more programs like that need to be in place in the community, especially with crime seemingly on the rise in the city.
