APRIL 14, 2014 --The Wesbury United Methodist Retirement Community plans to build 54-64 single family homes in Edinboro. The Edinboro Borough Council has decided to approve the preliminary plan, but with changes that were suggested to the council from Erie County Planning and Halmi Engineering. The council has requested the plans add sidewalks to the development which is a required ordinance for subdivisions in the area. Wesbury officials say the added costs of putting in sidewalks would be more than 190,000 dollars and would increase the cost of each home. Project officials say they want to keep the houses in an affordable price range for buyers and adding costs would up the desired selling price point of 175,000 to 250,000 dollars. Wesbury officials say they believe there is not a need for the sidewalks and say the taxes collected from the units would be more than 260,000 dollars for the area.
