The distinction will be recognized May 30 at the 2014 ACSM Annual Meeting in Orlando, Fla.
Dr. Roberts also was named Faculty Member of the Year at the University’s Academic Honors Convocation. The award, which is presented annually, recognizes a tenured faculty member who demonstrates outstanding service to the University, students and neighboring communities.
In nominating Dr. Roberts for Faculty Member of the Year, students and faculty colleagues cited the combination of high expectations and engaging, personal approach he brings to his teaching.
“He comes to every class prepared and excited to teach, which translates into students coming prepared and excited to learn,” graduating senior Dustin Thomas said of Dr. Roberts in his nominating statement.
Also nominating Roberts and providing statements to support the nomination were student Kara Wilson and faculty colleagues Shawn Reagan, D.Ed., and Laura Miller, Ph.D.
Dr. Roberts has been a member of the Edinboro faculty since 2001 and serves as coordinator of the department’s Human Performance Track as well as faculty co-advisor for the Exercise Science Club.
An Edinboro alumnus with a Bachelor of Science in Health and Physical Education, Dr. Roberts also earned a Master of Business Administration from Gannon University and a Ph.D. in Exercise Physiology from the University of Pittsburgh.
His teaching interests include health and wellness, exercise physiology, kinesiology and research in human performance. His research interests include ergogenic acids, sport performance predictors, and body composition.
He lives in Warren, Pa. with his twins, Alexis and Trenton. An additional daughter, Chalaine, resides in Pittsburgh.
