Erie Native and Denison University Senior Found Dead

- February 9, 2014 - A 2010 Cathedral Prep graduate and a Denison University senior was found dead after he was reported missing nearly 24 hours before.

The cause of his death is still under investigation, but police suspect he died from exposure.

David Hallman III, 21, of Erie, was last seen Saturday at 2am at Brews Cafe where bar surveillance video shows he left without a coat.

He wasn't found until after 10:30pm Saturday night.

Police think Hallman became disoriented after leaving the bar and ended up nearly a mile away, in front of a garage on Parsons Village Drive.

The search started when the student's father said his son missed an appointment at noon and couldn't be reached by his cell phone.

Granville Police and Denison University security organized a search and tracked his cell phone as security looked all over campus for him.

Hours later, two women found his body in the snow.

No foul play is suspected.

Hallman's cause of death is still under investigation, but police suspect alcohol is a factor.

The University issued a statement earlier today:

According to the Granville police, David was reported missing yesterday (Saturday) afternoon and Denison worked with local law enforcement to conduct a search. David was located Saturday night across the street from the Granville Golf Course where it appears he had fallen asleep and then succumbed to hypothermia.

Our campus is reaching out to each other to give and receive solace and support. We have several support resources in place, including daily counselor walk-in hours this week and support from the University Chaplain.

President Weinberg said, “David was a wonderful young man who was widely admired by our campus community. Right now our focus i son support our students. We are very proud of the way our students came together last night to support one another."
