At this hour, police are trying to piece together what happened inside.
Shots rang out around 7 this morning inside of the duplex at 1257 East 27th street.
That's where 38-year-old Stephon Bibbs was shot to death, and a 37-year-old man was shot in the upper leg.
Police say it's unclear what caused the altercation.
However, Police Chief Randy Bowers confirms that Bibbs lived in the upstairs portion of the duplex, and the 37-year-old man lived below.
Bowers says Bibbs' body was recovered in the rear of the downstairs apartment.
At the time of the shooting a woman was inside with her child on the first floor, but she and her child were not injured.
The 37-year-old man who was shot in the leg was taken to UPMC Hamot and is under police watch.
This marks the third homicide of the year.
Erie Police have recovered shell casings and a gun from the scene.
Chief Bowers says a motive is not clear.
