Erie Police Still Investigating Apparent Murder Suicide

- July 31, 2014 - Two people are dead tonight after an apparent murder suicide.

Erie police are still trying to piece together evidence and interview people close to the victims.

Police were called to 2716 Liberty Street around 8:30am.

Erie Police Chief Randy Bowers says a man and a woman were found dead in the upstairs apartment at this duplex building.

According to the Erie County Coroner, the 62-year-old man and 45-year-old woman each had single gunshot wounds.

Detectives and the coroner spent hours inside the apartment today collecting evidence and processing the scene.

Erie Police detectives say there were five people inside the home when the shootings happened.

The two victims, an adult woman and two kids who police believe were 16 and 11 years old.

According to police, the kids weren't harmed and were sleeping at the time it happened.

Chief Bowers says all five of them lived in that apartment.

The chief says they did find the weapon they believe was used, however they haven't determined who owned the gun.

Because the shooting hasn't been officially ruled a murder suicide, the Chief would not comment on who fired the weapon.

The Coroner has yet to release the names of the victims.
