Unemployment rates and rankings of adjacent counties were: Crawford (6.6%, t-31st); Venango (6.7%, t-34th); Warren (5.4%, t-6th); Mercer (7.2%, t-45th); and Forest (7.8%, t-52nd).
In December, seasonally adjusted total nonfarm jobs in the Erie MSA rose 500 to 132,800. Since December 2012, jobs increased 2,900 in the MSA. Detailed industry data for the MSA is not seasonally adjusted (see below).
Construction jobs went down 200 this month due to the arrival of winter weather.
Manufacturing jobs went down 400 in December mostly due to layoffs at General Electric.
The fall semester at local colleges and universities ended which resulted in education and health services and local government showing normal declines of 400 and 200, respectively.
