Erie Sports Commission Named Sports Commission of the Year

- The National Association of Sports Commissions named the Erie Sports Commission the 2013 Sports Commission of the Year at the 22nd annual NASC Sports Event Symposium being held in Oklahoma City.

The Sports Commission of the Year award is presented to the active NASC member that has had the most outstanding impact on its local community through sporting events, community activities charitable giving and economic impact. Entries were reviewed by a panel of association members.

The Erie Sports Commission was selected in the under $200,000 budget category.

The Harris County-Houston Sports Authority was selected in the over $200,000 budget category.

“This is a great honor!” said Erie Sports Commission Executive Director Ron Sertz. “We worked extremely hard to put ourselves into a position to be an effective and respected Sports Commission. But to think that we have, in the eyes of our peers, advanced to a level to be viewed as the best Sports Commission in the nation in less than three years of operation is tremendously satisfying.”

In 2013, the Erie Sports Commission moved from the transformational research phase of development into a highly-functional, well-recognized sports commission.

The Commission hosted a total of 19 events in Erie in 2013, resulting in more than $4.5 million in estimated economic impact, which was more than triple the impact of the previous year, and more than double the number of events.

The ESC is in the midst of even more substantial growth in 2014 with an anticipated 30-plus events already on the calendar, delivering more than triple the estimated economic impact.
