March 11, 2014 - Fire crews had a busy morning battling a blaze at the Northgate apartment complex in West Mead.

Calls came in around 4:30 Tuesday morning for a fire at the Northgate apartment complex located near Route 77 and Leslie Road on Laurel Drive.

According to the insurance adjuster on scene, the building that was on fire had 10 units.

Eight of them were occupied at the time of the fire.

The fire chief says the building is a complete loss but fortunately no one was injured.

The fire appears to have started in a basement and took more than an hour to contain.

The local chapter of the American Red Cross is helping four of the nine families who were displaced, supporting them with food, shelter and clothing.

The Pennsylvania State Police fire marshal was on scene trying to determine what caused the fire.
